The most accessible and scenic route on Mount Kenya, running along the spectacular Mackinder's Valley on the north-west ridge. Ideal for first-time high-altitude trekkers thanks to its gradual ascent through rainforest, bamboo, giant Rosewood zones, and open moorland.
The oldest and most direct route to the summit, running along the ever-green Teleki Valley. Steeper than Sirimon but deeply rewarding — this is the preferred route for those aiming at the glaciers and the technical summit of Nelion at 5,188m a.s.l.
The only fully off-trail route on Mount Kenya — and one of the most thrilling wilderness experiences in East Africa. Through dense rainforest and giant bamboo, sleeping in highland caves once used by Italian prisoners of war during WWII. A route designed for those who mean it.
Africa's most prestigious technical climbing objectives. Batian (5,199m) involves 22 pitches and sits just metres from Nelion (5,188m). Three days of trekking to base camp via Sirimon or Naromoru, followed by the climb with fully trained and equipped local technical guides.
Africa's highest peak and the world's tallest free-standing mountain. Kilimanjaro is non-technical and achievable for fit trekkers with proper acclimatisation. We operate on the Machame and Marangu routes, both offering iconic views above the clouds and extraordinary climate zones from rainforest to arctic.
The eastern wall of the Great Rift Valley. The Aberdares offer climbing on the dramatic Dragon's Teeth formations, some of Kenya's most spectacular waterfalls, and excellent game viewing. An ideal acclimatisation destination before bigger peaks. Available as a day trip or a 3-day tented safari by vehicle.
A volcanic crater mountain rising from the floor of the Great Rift Valley near Lake Naivasha and Hell's Gate. The crater rim hike at 2,560m offers sweeping views over the valley, with chances of game viewing along the trail. Just one hour from Nairobi — a perfect day out.
A sacred flat-topped mountain deep in Samburu territory, two hours north of Nanyuki. Luggage carried by donkeys alongside Samburu warriors from the village. A place of prayer and ritual for the Samburu people — and one of East Africa's most extraordinary sunrise viewpoints, with the Mathew Ranges unfolding on the eastern horizon.
Most agencies sell from behind a desk. We camp, cook, and guide on the mountain ourselves.
One- and two-person tents to high standard, plus dedicated dining and kitchen tents. Your camp is your home on the mountain.
Three well-balanced meals daily: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and all special diets catered for — just let us know in advance.
Drinking water provided throughout. Portable toilets set up at every campsite.
Energetic, experienced porters, cooks, and guides who believe in teamwork and take genuine pride in your experience.

Our home is one of East Africa's most remarkable tourism hubs. From a single base, all of the following are within a two-hour drive — and we can take you to any of them.
Ancient Ascents is a small, passionate guiding outfit based in Nanyuki at the foot of Mount Kenya. We were founded on a simple observation: most agencies selling Kenya adventures have never set foot on the mountain themselves.
We have. We know every camp, every weather shift, every animal trail. Our guides grew up in these landscapes and our porters and cooks are part of the same community. When you travel with us, you travel with people who care about the outcome — not just the booking.
We specialise in luxury camping expeditions that take small groups deep into wilderness environments, on routes both well-known and rarely travelled. Full board, proper tents, real food, and a team that genuinely shows up for you.
Nanyuki is our base and our backyard. Within two hours of town sits some of the most extraordinary terrain on the continent — and we know all of it.
We operate on the terrain we sell. No remote bookings, no assumptions. If we recommend a route, it's because we've done it.
We don't scale for the sake of volume. Every trip is tailored, every client is known by name, and every itinerary is built around your goals.
Camping with us means eating well. Breakfast, lunch, dinner — prepared fresh by our cooks at altitude. Special diets handled without fuss.
Our porters, cooks, and guides are from the communities surrounding Mount Kenya. Tourism done right lifts the places it moves through.
We let the mountain do the talking — and our guests do the rest. Read honest reviews on Google and TripAdvisor, or share your own experience.
